26 youth and 5 adults spent the week of June 10-15 in Logan, WV extending the love of Christ to the people of this wonderful, yet struggling community. The team joined a team from Nebraska to make up five ministry groups for the week. Two of the groups remained at the old middle school which had been converted into a church/mission station and ran a VBS type experience for many of the children of Logan. The other three groups went out into the community and did home repairs (mostly painting). All involved were able to see the difficulties of living in a community that has lost most of its economic fortitude due to the collapse of the coal industry in the area, while at the same time witnessing the incredible spirit of community and hospitality that runs throughout the community. Also, while the team may have gone with the goal of giving to others, each team member received more than could have been expected from both the residents of Logan and through the work of the Holy Spirit within our hearts. All in all it was a wonderful week, one which no one will soon forget. If you want to know more about the trip, talk with one of the 31 participants and hear their personal story.
